This My Day

It starts in daylight

In seams of sunshine

That holds me warm

A hug from my lover

A walk by the sea

The air fresh, a gentle summer breeze

And then we hike

You and me

Across meadows and grasslands

With flasks of tea

And home cooked food

In containers to feed

This appetite to live, this appetite to breathe

This appetite to be absolutely free

It starts on the summit

Of a mountain in big skies

Our hearts beating

Our muscles in sighs

And we breathe in the view

And the world looks ridiculously small

And nothing matters

Nothing at all

Until I’m hungry and thirsty for more

Roasted beetroot, shredded carrot

And cashew nuts oven roasted

Seeds toasted, with sweet potato fries

And dal and samosa’s

And a huge chocolate smile

It starts in the kitchen

With my friends, the painter, the bass player

The singer set free

No bossy partner who restricts his liberty

And we dance to great tunes

Classic 80’s pop

Songs that I hated when I was young

When I was a musical snob

We dance to 90’s anthems and raise our hands

Garage punk and DIY bands

And the dancing spills onto the streets

With neighbour’s fleet footed grooving to beats

It’s carnival time and the costumes are big

We are together on our dancing feet

On these ever-splendid debris free streets

And when I’m ready I shut my front door

We’re alone in the peace

And solitude once more

And I reflect on the day

That was my day, today
